A French bulldog, named Winston, miraculously walked away with minor injuries after he fell six stories from a New York City apartment building and through the sunroof of a parked car last week.
Winston and his owner, Emma Heinrich, had just returned from a walk when she unleashed him before they entered their apartment on Orchard Street on the Lower East Side in Manhattan around 11pm on Friday.
Instead of going inside the apartment, the pooch bolted up another flight of stairs and through the building’s roof access door, which had been left open.
‘I tried to get him to come to me but he bolted again, towards the front edge of the building. I saw him try and slow down at the last second but it was too late and he went over the edge,’ Heinrich wrote on Reddit.
Winston went crashing down through the sunroof of a Dodge Challenger outside the building.
Luckily, it scared him more than it hurt him.
According to bystanders, Winston wasn’t ‘visibly bleeding but was quite shook up and salivating a lot’.
About 30 seconds later, the bystanders said Heinrich came running out of the building and straight to the car.
She then climbed onto the hood of the car and pulled Winston out through the sunroof.
Heinrich said Winston was rushed to the nearest animal hospital immediately after the fall.
‘He has a cut on his hind leg that has been stitched, but miraculously did not break a single bone in his body. I’ve been told that he has a fair amount of bruising, as to be expected,’ she wrote.
A veterinarian kept Winston for another 24 hours to make sure the fall didn’t affect his breathing.
‘It’s an absolute miracle that he is alive right now,’ Heinrich said.
Heinrich said they will be paying to repair the car owner’s sunroof.
It’s currently unclear how Winston managed to only suffer minor injuries from the fall.
