Rapper A$AP Rocky was found guilty of assault by a Swedish court on Wednesday.
“The court finds that the defendants were not in a situation where they were entitled to self-defense [sic]and that they have assaulted the victim by hitting and kicking him,” the Stockholm District Court said in a statement per CBS News.
Despite the guilty ruling, Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, will not face any jail time.
“In regard to sentencing, the court finds that there are both aggravating and extenuating circumstances,” the court stated. “In an overall assessment, the court finds that the assault has not been of such a serious nature that a prison sentence must be chosen.”
The rapper will, however, have to pay up.
“The victim is awarded damages for violation of his integrity and pain and suffering, but less than he requested,” the court noted.
Rocky faced up to two years in prison for assaulting a man in Stockholm in late June. He turned himself in and was arrested and held in a Swedish jail. It wasn’t until Aug. 2 that the court ruled he was free to travel outside of the country while waiting for a verdict.
The 30-year-old’s weeks-long detention without charges garnered the attention of celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Justin Beiber, and even President Donald Trump to call on the Swedish government to let him go.
Rocky has yet to comment on the verdict, but it’s fair to assume that the rapper is happy to de done with this experience. When the Harlem native was released from jail in early August, he shared this heartfelt message.
“THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART TO ALL OF MY FANS, FRIENDS AND ANYONE ACROSS THE GLOBE WHO SUPPORTED ME DURING THESE LAST FEW WEEKS,” he captioned the Instagram post.
“I CANT BEGIN TO DESCRIBE HOW GRATEFUL I AM FOR ALL OF YOU THIS HAS BEEN A VERY DIFFICULT AND HUMBLING EXPERIENCE I WANT TO THANK THE COURT FOR ALLOWING ME BLADI AND THOTO TO RETURN TO OUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL OF THE LOVE AND SUPPORT.”
