Tyson Fury’s trainer Ben Davison has refused to reveal whether Freddie Roach will be in the corner for the Gypsy King’s clash with Tom Schwarz next month.
Roach was part of Team Fury for last December’s thrilling draw with Deontay Wilder, but the veteran coach appeared to break ranks when he claimed after the fight that he was ‘disappointed’ with Davison’s corner work, suggesting the young trainer had cost his fighter victory.
Davison later revealed Roach had rung him to apologise and that he would be open to working together again.
However on Monday, the trainer was asked who would be in the corner at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on June 15 and responded: ‘Me, Ricky (Hatton) and (coach) Asgar Tair.’ On whether Roach would be joining them, he said: ‘You never know’.
Fury did confirm, however, that he will not be training for Schwarz in Roach’s Wild Card gym in Hollywood, where he spent the final weeks of his camp before facing Wilder in Los Angeles.
Instead he will be based at the Top Rank gym in Las Vegas after heading out to the US this weekend.
‘This fight’s in Las Vegas so it’s a different heat to LA, it’s in the desert,’ he said. ‘We’re going straight into Las Vegas on Sunday – that gives us four weeks to acclimatise and get ready, and hopefully that’ll be enough and it’ll be good.
‘I spoke to Ricky Hatton about it and he said four weeks is plenty. He boxed there a few times, as we know, and I’ve taken that advice on board.’
