Report questions Vic cops’ ethics guidance

Victorian police officers who do not seek ongoing promotion within the force could be lacking ethical guidance, a report has found.

Former chief commissioner Neil Comrie investigated reports of falsified roadside breath test results, finding in May 2018 an “ethical failure”.

His partly-redacted 120-page report was released in full on Monday.

“In a situation where a member of Victoria Police chooses not to seek promotion past the rank of senior constable, it is quite possible for the member to complete a 40-year career without ever receiving any specific ethics-based professional development once they complete their initial training,” the report reads.
